Short Review of “The Coffin”

Having caught a movie on Thursday night, i had meant to blog a review of “The Coffin” but had absolutely no time. In short and in essence, it is not too bad, but not fantastic either. The ’shortcomings’ of the classic asian horror films are all there – the excessive use of loud sound effects and large zoom-ups for the shock effect. Storyline-wise, i like some parts of it, but some parts of sketchy leaving us to wonder what was the link with the story – especially for the male lead and his (ghostly) girlfriend.

I did like however, how the story was played out in parallel motion despite the time difference, and yet it was not at all one bit confusing. The symmetry and grand images of the coffins around the big buddha statues were also fantastic. Karen Mok and Ananda provided the necessary eye-candy – not to say that their acting was in anyway deplorable. I like Karen Mok quite a lot and she was definitely in no way not up-to-standard in the show.

Better than some of the more recent Asian horror flicks that i have caught, but no match for my all-time favourite horror movie “The Sixth Sense”.

Right, and that’s the end of my rambling about movies for now, to the end of exams, i think.
